Doctor of Optometry

Dr. Erica Udell is a dry eye specialist whose practice is dedicated exclusively to the diagnosis and management of Dry Eye Disease and ocular surface disorders. She founded Intown Dry Eye Care to provide patients with specialized, individualized care in a setting focused entirely on the health and function of the ocular surface.

Over the years, Dr. Udell’s interest in ocular surface disease and dry eye management has grown as she witnessed more and more patients struggling with these chronic symptoms and the negative impact they can have on quality of life. As a dry eye sufferer herself, she was motivated to dedicate her time to understanding the complexities of ocular surface disease. It has since become her objective to provide the most advanced and effective dry eye treatments available.

Dr. Udell is deeply committed to staying current with the rapidly evolving field of dry eye care. In 2025, she attended the esteemed Dry Eye Institute, a COPE-accredited program tailored to doctors seeking to hone their skills in advanced treatments for Dry Eye Disease. She furthered her education at the Twin Cities Ocular Surface Disease Symposium later that year and at the Lumenis Accelerate event in 2026. She regularly attends both virtual and in-person lectures and webinars, voraciously reads the latest research and clinical literature, and listens to podcasts from leading experts in the field. She genuinely enjoys learning and believes that staying current with the latest science is essential to providing her patients with the most informed, evidence-based care possible.

Her commitment to dry eye education extends beyond her own learning. In February 2026, Dr. Udell lectured on Dry Eye Disease to the Atlanta chapter of the Georgia Optometric Association, presenting to approximately 70 local optometrists. She is passionate about sharing knowledge with other eye care professionals and helping to advance the understanding and management of ocular surface disease within the optometric community.

Dr. Udell graduated magna cum laude from Northeastern University (Boston, MA) with a Bachelor of Science degree. She then pursued additional studies in Biology at Florida Atlantic University and Nova Southeastern University before earning her Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from the State University of New York College of Optometry in 2008.

With over 17 years of professional experience as a licensed Optometrist, first in New York City (2008–2009) and then at various locations around the metro Atlanta area (2010–present), Dr. Udell has been a respected member of her professional community. She spent the majority of her Atlanta career seeing patients at a private practice in North Druid Hills before establishing her specialty dry eye practice.

Dr. Udell has a warm, compassionate chair-side manner and a genuine desire to develop a personal rapport with each of her patients. She lives in the City of Decatur with her husband, their two teenage children, and two rescue dogs. When she is not seeing patients, she enjoys tackling various DIY projects around her home, hiking amongst the tall Georgia pine trees, singing show tunes in her car, fostering dogs, and supporting her children and their schools through volunteer service, specifically in the Performing Arts programs. She also does an insane amount of laundry.
